The BOD for 85% Formic acid is 86 mg/g or 86,000 mg/liter (Ultra Biocid is 6100 mg/liter). We know from titration data listed below that 85-90% formic is about the same strength as Ultra Biocid for pH control.
So we can conclude that Ultra Biocid will contribute less to BOD by a factor of 10 and it also contributes nutrient nitrogen to the waste stream that Formic acid does not.
